Portfolio 2014

A website designer is a specialist who creates web pages.

A layout designer works in a team with a web designer and programmer. First, the designer “draws” the site - comes up with a theme, places the necessary elements in the right places. After the site layout is approved, the layout designer gets to work. Using various markup language elements of a web page, it translates graphic design elements (drawings, fonts, tables, etc.) into a browser-friendly format. We can say that it creates a textual layout of what the designer came up with. After the page is laid out and checked in various browsers for correct display, it is transferred to the programmer, who connects the necessary functionality.

It is very important for a layout designer to be able to make layouts for different “engines” of websites, and to take into account the type of devices from which users will access the site. Page layout must be done taking into account different screen resolutions and browser versions, and adhere to certain standards.

A layout designer needs to know the following computer languages:

  • markup languages HTML, XHTML, XML;
  • Cascading CSS Style Sheets.

In his work, a layout designer uses text editors or HTML editors to compose the code of web pages, graphics programs to work with graphics, and browsers to check the results of his work.
